Sometimes a situation comes up where you need to restore or reset your iPhone 13 (or other model of your choosing). It may have been one you picked up from a pawn shop or online seller that wasn’t properly reset; or, for that matter, it may have a technical issue that requires a full-blown restart to get back to normal. (It seldom happens, but we have seen it.)

Not to worry. In this helpful guide, we’ll break down the steps needed to either do a “hard reset” or a simple restore (from iCloud) back onto your iPhone. Most of the newer models follow these steps, but we’ll explain anything you need to do differently in the case of a particular one. Now, then, let’s fix that phone!

How To Hard Reset Your iPhone 13

There are reasons why you may need to reset your iPhone 13 back to its menu. Whether it’s a temporary freeze-up or another technical issue, this simply resolves the issue and gets you back to your menu.

Fix that iPhone 13 with ease!
Surprisingly enough, resetting your iPhone 13 is a cinch.

In the past, you usually just held down two buttons for several seconds (usually volume up and power) to turn the phone back off and on. With the iPhone 13, it’s a little bit different.

No matter what model you’re using, follow these three basic steps:

  • Press on the Volume Up button located on the left side of the phone, but don’t hold it down. A simple press will do..
  • Press the Volume Down button located right beneath it and let go. Again, simple press will work.
  • Press and hold down the side button on the opposite side. After a few seconds, you’ll see the Apple logo appear on the screen. At this point, release the button.

Keep in mind that you’ll want to press the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons separately. This isn’t a matter of holding onto one and pressing the other. The only button you’ll be holding down here is the side button after you hit the volume ones.

Once this is done, your iPhone 13 should successfully restart without losing anything. You can continue to use it.

If you prefer to just do something like a “soft reset” instead, you can simply turn the phone off by holding the side button for several seconds. A pop-up will ask if you want to turn off your phone. Slide this over and it will shut off. Hold the button again for several seconds and it’ll turn back on. No need for those volume buttons with this step!

What If I Continue Having Problems After the Hard Reset?

Should the freeze-up and other technical problems be recurring with your phone, not to worry.

It’s still a new model, and there’s a good chance you’re still covered by AppleCare. You can find out by searching through your serial number here

From there, if you’re covered, you can contact Apple about setting up a repair, either through mail-in or visiting a Genius Bar.

We’re not certain on how much repair will cost, as that depends on your level of AppleCare coverage.

That said, you may want to look into AppleCare+ coverage to get the most out of your iPhone 13. Your wallet will thank you later.

How To Restore Your iPhone 13

So, let’s say that you have no problems with your iPhone 13, and all you need to do is restore it. If you opted in for iCloud back-up saving, you should have no problem getting things set up.

Got iCloud? Then your phone restore is as good as new.

Simply follow these steps!

  • Turn on your iPhone using the side button. (If you had to factory reset it previously, chances are it’ll be off already.)
  • Go through the screen asking to choose a language or region.
  • From there, you’ll see an option to Set Up Manually. Go ahead and select this.
  • There will be an option for Restore from iCloud Backup. Choose this and look at the onscreen instructions where to go next.
  • For security reasons, you’ll be asked for your Apple ID. If for some reason you forgot what it was (or don’t remember the password), refer to this page for further assistance.

You’re good to go! But what if you’re restoring it from a computer? Not to worry, as that process is even simpler!

  • Connect your iPhone to your computer using the included cable with your device. (Don’t have one? You can get one easily from a retailer like Walmart or Best Buy.)
  • Once that’s done, it depends on what type of computer you have.
  • On a Mac, go to the Finder sidebar and select your iPhone. Click trust and then restore your phone from the backup of your choice.
  • If you have a Windows PC, click on the device icon located to the top left of the iTunes window, and you’ll be able to select your phone from the list. Once that’s done, click “Restore from this backup” on the Welcome screen, and you’ll be all set! (Note: this may require a password, depending on how secure your PC set-up is.)

Either way, you’ll be ready to go with your device, with no problem!

Are There Any Differences In the Steps For Other Models?

As we mentioned above, there’s a unique way to shut off earlier model iPhones. Most of them usually involve holding down the power button and the volume up button for several seconds. By doing this, the phone resets to the Apple logo automatically, and then your home menu.

Remember when the iPhone had a home button? Good times

Some older models actually required you to press the side button alongside the home button, located at the bottom of the screen. But, as you probably realize, Apple did away with that home button some time ago, giving users more screen to play around with. Hence, the other method to reset it.

However, the general rule should still apply when it comes to a soft reset. Turn it off, turn it back on, and you’re in business!
