How Much is an iPhone 13 Worth? A Tremendous Amount

It might be too soon to ask, “How much is an iPhone 13 worth?”, but hear us out.

If there is one thing that’s certain, Apple will always have a new iPhone device ready to replace its previous one. And with it, it’ll introduce some additional features that millions of consumers will want to try out, be it camera improvements or some sort of high-tech add-on that’ll make their device worth the upgrade.

That said, once the iPhone 14 does eventually come into play, the current model making the rounds on the market, iPhone 13, will start to see some trade-ins. At the moment, people are enjoying the various models available, including the iPhone 13, the iPhone 13 Pro models, and the iPhone 13 Mini.

But don’t be surprised if they hold a high trade-in value once the new model arises, which seems to be par for the course for Apple’s devices. That’s mainly due to the top-tier quality that each one has, not to mention the features still working remarkably well, thanks to continuous iOS updates.

Just how much is an iPhone 13 worth? A lot more than you think.

Still, there are probably a few of you that are curious in terms of just what the iPhone 13 could be worth, even nowadays. Fortunately, we’ve got a guide that breaks down what you can get, either in cold, hard cash or with trade-in value through select retailers. Not everyone has an offer for it just yet (it’s still relatively new on the market), but you can bet that those who do are offering quite a tremendous value.

Let’s check out the prices!

How Much Is an iPhone 13 Worth?

The iPhone 13 line-up arrived on September 24, 2021 to thunderous applause from the Apple community, with a sleek design, an improved camera system and a new Cinematic Mode, so that pictures could come to life with the improved Face ID TrueDepth sensor.

That said, these new models aren’t quite easy on the wallets. The general iPhone 13 model goes for around $829 for the 128GB model (not including activation costs and accessories), while the Pro and Pro Max sell for $999 and $1099, respectively. The iPhone 13 Mini is a bit more reasonable, going for $729.99 (Getting high-end 256GB and 512GB models will cost you more.)

Should you feel the need to get rid of your device for some money (or just prepare yourself for whenever the iPhone 14 line is announced), you can check over the guide below. However, when sending in your iPhone 13, you’ll want to keep the following terms in mind, which can have an effect on your buyrate.

  • Condition – Cosmetic issues like cracks will cost you (scratches could decrease your trade-in by an average of 23%), and that’s not including any damage that affects functionality.
  • Carrier – If your iPhone 13 is locked to a specific carrier (with Verizon being the exception as all Verizon phones are automatically unlocked 60 days after purchase), your resale value could drop up to 24-51% depending on your wireless provider. This limits their resale value significantly.
  • Payment – You’re likely to get more for store credit than you are in cash, though you’re limited on where you can spend it. If you’re upgrading for an iPhone 14 at Apple, though, it’s handy.
  • Storage size – The bigger the storage space, the bigger the payout. The 512GB model will obviously get a lot more than the 128GB.

Overall, an iPhone 13 will net you between $470 and $630. An iPhone 13 Mini will be slightly less, but can still fetch between $385 and $615. The iPhone 13 Pro can get between $600 and $990, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max gets the most value between $735 and $1065. These are based on models between 128GB and 1TB on GadgetGone, with Verizon service.

Keep in mind that offers can vary widely depending on the condition of your phone. For example, the same iPhone 13 above will fetch you exactly $0 at Best Buy if it doesn’t activate (since it hasn’t adjusted its trade-in values anyway), while a never-been-activated iPhone 13 Pro Max will net you up to $1365 at GadgetGone.

Not everyone is offering money on iPhone 13 just yet, but those who are (like us) are offering huge bucks.

Shop Around For an Offer Before You Jump

As you can see from the offers below (currently updated with estimates from January 2022), where you decide to trade in your used iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Mini or iPhone 13 Pro Max can make all the difference with what you get back. Getting a small handful of cash for a general unlocked iPhone 13 sounds great at first, but it loses some of its luster when you realize that you could have received much, much more of that amount in cash from GadgetGone simply by waiting a few days.

Likewise, getting $700 in account credit from your carrier seems like a pretty great deal, but doesn’t do much good when the need for cash arises.

When you’re in the market to trade in and trade up, or if you just need to make a quick buck, the number one thing you can do is look up iPhone resale values with a wide variety of companies. Cast a wide net – buyback sites, big-box retailers, your carrier, Apple Trade In, maybe even a wildcard like GameStop, Amazon, or ecoATM. Keep an eye out for any promotions they might be running to maximize your trade-in. Plus, some buyback companies (including us at GadgetGone) will even allow you to price match if you find a better offer from a competitor.

Just remember – the iPhone 13 is still quite new on the market, so not everyone is taking it in just yet. However, those that do have significant offers, so feel free to compare before you pounce.

With just a little bit of research, you can rest easy knowing you’re getting the most money possible for your device.

You may not want to cash in with your device just yet, but once you do, it’ll get big bucks.

iPhone 13 Resale Value Comparison Chart

To give you a head start, we rounded up the resale values at some of the most popular buyback options. Please note that the offers below are for 128GB models in good condition on the Verizon network. Your offer will vary based on your iPhone’s storage size, condition, and carrier.

Also, once again, not everyone is offering trade-ins on iPhone 13 just yet, since they’re still “mint” on the market. But we’ll continue to update this article as values become available!

iPhone 13 iPhone 13 Mini iPhone 13 Pro Max
GadgetGone (cash) $470 $385 $735
Amazon Trade-In (store credit)
Best Buy Trade-In (store credit)
ecoATM (cash)
GameStop Trade-In (store credit)
Apple Trade In (store credit)
AT&T Trade-In Program (store credit) $400
T-Mobile Trade-In Program (store credit) $415 $365 $550
Verizon Device Trade-In Program (store credit) $423 $365 $568

Even if some offers from retailers look better than others, be sure to check out our reviews of Amazon Trade-In, Best Buy Trade-In, ecoATM, GameStop Trade-In, Apple Trade In, AT&T Trade-In, T-Mobile Trade-In, and Verizon Device Trade-In before you make a decision. (That may be easy considering the current offers on the market, but as you can tell, there are stark differences.)

Not Likely Anytime Soon, But iPhone 13 Values Can Change

Keep in mind that iPhone device prices change regularly. Last year’s article featured much different prices for the iPhone 12 models than they do now, namely due to the debut of the iPhone 13. But as you can see, they still fetch a pretty good deal of money, particularly from GadgetGone.

Usually, when a new iPhone is announced, you can expect those numbers to drop by around 30% in the 24 hours following the launch (or more, possibly even twice as much.)

In other words, it’s time to strike while the iron is hot. Most buyback companies and trade-in programs will give you time to decide by locking in your quote (our price-lock period is 14 days), so if you do decide to get rid of your iPhone 13 (mainly due to upgrades or, who knows, you just have an extra lying around), there are some decent offers out there.

When you’re ready, your iPhone 13 will get some serious value.

One more thing: it’s vital to note that all of these offers are subject to change once your device is received and evaluated. While you might think that your iPhone is in good condition, evaluators may feel differently. Don’t be surprised if that $415 you were expecting turns into something closer to $375 due to wear and tear, or something even as simple as a small screen scratch. (Yes, you’d be surprised how much damage can be done to an iPhone over a matter of a few months.)

We definitely feel you when it comes to the frustration from this. Unfortunately, what may look like gentle use to you may actually be more on the heavy use side of things when viewed through the eyes of an expert. Keep in mind that something that looks “perfect” to you could be completely otherwise with someone that has the technical equipment to analyze it. (And there are some stingy third-parties doing it as well, namely with Amazon.)

Thankfully, most trade-in options will send your iPhone back to you free of charge, no questions asked, if you’re unhappy with the updated offer. Some won’t (like, for instance, Verizon. Send your device to them broken and you’re not likely to get it back at all.)

In other words, do your research before you sell. Despite how high-tech the iPhone 13 is, you might just be pleased by the huge value being offered for it right now or down the road. Again, we’ll keep updating values as they become available. But one thing’s for sure – having a new iPhone around certainly isn’t a bad thing.
